Surf Nicaragua with Coach Karin

by: Karin Norby

I grew up on the water. I spent the first 18 years of my life on a lake in Northern Minnesota. Slept in my swimsuit, woke up at 6AM to waterski on the best water, and I had lake hair from May-September. It was magical. Nothing made me feel more alive than my father waking us kids up at 6AM to take us out for a ski before he went into the office. The water was glass, there was early morning fog, and life was super fucking simple.

Fast forward to my adult life ? it really was summer forever. I lived life in my swimsuit. Summers in college, I was a nanny and spent long weeks in Maine. (Have you ever swam in Maine waters in July? Really fast way to feel alive.) I had my paddleboard strapped to my car the entire summer that I lived and worked downtown, and would fight traffic to get to Lake Harriet by sunset. Now? I never go anywhere without a swimsuit in my car ? always need to be prepared for an open water swim or pool office day.

Perhaps one of the things I have realized most about myself ? I do better in the water.

So, what?s the point? At Alchemy, as most of you know, we are all about cultivating an experience to help make people feel alive. Even more powerful? Take that experience outside of the gym and out in the world. Enter: Alchemy Retreats.

Who knows? Maybe on this trip you discover your inner Blue Crush, you discover that you are better in the water, you fall in love with the sport of surfing, or screw it ? you wake up every morning at the crack of dawn to catch the best water and feel fucking alive.
